Kinematic Viscosity

Kinematic Viscosity

Definition - Kinematic Viscosity is the ratio of absolute viscosity to density of the fluid

  • It is commonly report in centistokes.
  • Centistokes equals Centipoises divided by Specific Gravity of the fluid.
  • Water at room temperature has a kinematic viscosity of one centistoke

Units – In the SI-system, kinematic viscosity unit is m2/s or commonly used Stoke (St)

1 St = 10-4 m2/s

Related terms – Fluid viscosity, Absolute viscosity, Dynamic Viscosity,  Apparent viscosity,  Absolute viscosity, Centipoise, Centistokes
