Definition - Froude Number represents a ratio of inertial forces to the gravitational force.
Under laminar flow conditions, the fluid remains stagnant at a distance away from the impeller. In such cases, the Froude number accounts for the force of gravity which determines the fluid motion.
Fr = n2Da / g
Fr – Froude number
n – Agitator speed measured in revolutions / second
Da – Impeller diameters in metres
g – Acceleration due to gravity, 9.8m/s2
- Froude number is dimensionless
Related terms – Dimensionless number, Reynolds number
