Absolute Viscosity

Definition – Absolute viscosity is defined as the tangential force per unit area required to move one horizontal plane with respect to the other at unit velocity when maintained a unit distance apart by the fluid.

  • It is a measure of the internal fluid resistance
  • It is also termed as dynamic viscosity
  • Water at room temperature has a viscosity of one cP

Units - Its measured in N s/m2, Pa s, kg/m s, centipoise (cP)

1 Pa s = 1 N s/m2= 1 kg/m s = 1000 cP
